HiView1000XP

FAQ

1. What are the benefits of using HiView 1000XP?

•  Saves money . Businesses worldwide spend billions of dollars annually to send employees to client meetings. With Videoconferencing Businesses still have the convenience of face to face meetings – but from the familiarity and comfort of their own offices.

•  Saves time . Saving many hours of local and international travel, videoconferencing gives the ability to meet with anyone in the world. In its turn this saves time and allows employees to use the time saved far more effectively to advance projects in-hand or to work on new ones.

•  Makes for More Productive Meetings. Meetings are critically important since they not only allow your company to get together to discuss strategies and ideas, they also create vital bonds between company employees and clients. These relationships in turn are a very significant help to business and more importantly to business relationships.

2. But, How Does HiView 1000XP Compare with Competitors Products?

HiView 1000XP was designed to give the essentials needed for effective real-time videoconferencing in order to let the user increase meeting productivity. The solution delivers Video, Voice and Data and does not include non-essentials which may be “Nice to have” but are not strictly needed. Importantly, each communication media can be used independently with high integration, unlike our larger competitors more elaborate, and much more expensive devices.

Though never intended to be a direct competitor to others, here is a brief comparison chart to allow you to see the differences between HiView and some other systems.

The HiView bottom line is: Price, Ease of Use and Overall Effectiveness.

3. So, what does HiView Have that Others Don’t?

Briefly compared; HiView, unlike others is an Open device using an embedded Linux system. Use of Linux gives the system easy scalability and extendibility making integration and vertical migration easy.

Most competitor’s products still use the one-way video compression mechanism H.239 which is great for simple presentation formats, but has the disadvantage of limiting collaboration and changing data; unlike HiView which coverall all aspects equally well. HiView will allow equal levels of both collaboration and presentation.

4. Can my Company use Videoconferencing?

Basically any corporate entity from SOHO through to Enterprise level that has any form of broadband infrastructure can use HiView videoconferencing platforms. Methods can include: xDSL, Cable, Fiber, Ethernet and Wireless.

5. How to ensure Voice and Video Quality across the Public Internet?

In many places the public internet does not guarantee any Quality of Service (QoS) but as an example of what can be done, the ever more popular SKYPE uses only a tiny bandwidth for an end-to-end solution and yet delivers very good performance. Using a similar analogy, HiView has the ability to forgive a certain degree of network jitter and still keep fluent communication.

As a test, we have devised a pre-qualification process to establish if your network is suitable for adoption of videoconference.

•  Ping Delay – Measure your IP Network “Ping” round trip delay time between your location and another frequent communications site.

•  Tracert – Measure the network Hubs between your location and another frequent communications site. This will tell you how many routers have been passed.

This table makes sense of average network infrastructure:

Ping Delay

Tracert Hubs

Video/voice quality in average

< 100ms

Less than 15

Best quality

<400ms

Less than 25

Acceptable Quality

Up to 800ms

Close to 35

Barely work quality

6. .Are there any other Factors that might influence Quality of Communications?

Yes, if you have an above average level of Burst Traffic. This may imply that for videoconferencing you might need to be separated from noisy or busy networks.

Also connectivity problems in your network that cause excessive jitter may have an influence. This type of problem may range from simple poor connections through switch/router problems or even network layout performance.

In these cases, its best to consult your network administrator or manager to check, but in general, if your Ping and Tracert data can meet the criteria in the table then videoconferencing should be no problem.

7. What do the Criteria “100ms or 15 hubs” Mean? Does Network Jitter directly equate to physical distance?

Actually jitter is not directly related to regions or continents in most cases. For example you may experience a delay of only 100ms across the Pacific Ocean between the USA and Japan through your ISP and AT&T. However you might be afflicted with 500ms or worse from different IP carriers in the same locations due to IP Routing issues. These differences are generally caused by complicated networking through different layers of ISP that are concentrated together.

Here is some general data on “typical latency delay” across continents:

8. Is there any other factors could jeopardize the quality?

Yes, your overwhelm burst mode traffic usage within your enterprise will impact this video and audio communication if there is any. It may imply you may require separating the network for running voice/video application. Please consult your IT or Network manager.

9. How to start up?

First install the device using the Quick Start Guide and Manual. For the HiView 1000XP here are the basic steps:

1).Set up main Conference Display
2).Plug and enable the audio with the TV speakers or a standalone speaker
3). Connect to the Ethernet and configured IP environment
4). Confirm that NAT/Firewall issues are ok to allow in/out dialling
5). Test Drive. Try calling 216.101.239.155 for testing
6). Adjust the bandwidth so as not to exceed allowances.

10. How can I connect to my company router?

Simply treat the HiView 1000XP as another computer in your network. Make sure that you have instructed your IT or network manager to enable incoming IP calls to this internal endpoint.

11. Do I need to open the company firewall?

Yes the Firewall will need to be opened on a fixed port basis unless you have an H.323 aware Firewall or Router. Please refer to the user manual for more details.

12. Can this Product be Infected by a Virus?

No, HiView products use embedded closed systems. There is no chance of hacking or virus infection.

13. Can I use more than one HiView Videoconferencing system?

Yes in general this is possible. Please consult your IP or network manager to confirm. Normally a gatekeeper will be needed so that users can scale up to two or more units.

14. How much bandwidth can I use?

Please make sure not to overstress your bandwidth or network capacity – this means your WAN (Wide Area Network) Limitations.
Note: If bandwidth limitations are exceeded, this might cause packet loss and choppy audio and video.

For example; if you have a DSL connection (Uplink 384Kbps and downlink 3Mbps) you may have to consider that the maximum bandwidth may not exceed 384Kbps due to the uplink limitation.

Another method is to measure the average bandwidth usage and then allocate part of it especially for videoconferencing.

15. What Video/Audio Codec should I use?

The HiView 1000XP will automatically select the correct Video/Audio Codec, but if you wish you can select the preferred version. From a quality aspect, H.264 represents the best Video quality and G.722 gives the best Audio quality.

16. Can HiView talk to other videoconferencing devices?

Yes, the HiView 1000XP can talk to any H.323 based endpoint/MCU.

17. What Security does HiView 1000XP offer?

Web access security password and IP dial in security password. Also PPoE is optional for ISP models.
